I know that a lot of factors like launch angle play into It, but in general/WAG terms, what kind of exit velo should you be looking for, to clear a 5’ fence at 200’-230’?

Batted Ball Distance:
Is calculated using Exit Speed and an assumed launch angle of 25° (line drive). Accounts for the effects of air drag, ball spin, and wind. Every 1 MPH on a well hit line drive will give the ball an added 3.3 feet in distance (4.5 feet for baseball)

That means a ball going 60.6 MPH with a launch angle of 25 degrees will go 200 feet, assuming ideal conditions. That seems a little slow on the exit velocity to hit the ball that far.

I wonder if I can test that theory with a Jugs machine, or would the dimpled balls disrupt the flight path too much?

No idea on the math but off the tee and off front toss dd is 64-68 and hits a reasonable amount of homeruns for a smaller kid 12 in her hs season 6-9 for a summer or fall season of 6-8 tournaments. She’s definitely not a power hitter. If you factor in that exit velo is probably higher off a faster pitcher I guess she’s probably over 70.

68mph at 31deg will net you 201ft. Will need 75 for 230ft.
Add a little extra to carry the fence depending on height, wind, spin, etc etc etc.
I was surprised spin can make a huge difference. At 68 and 31 I get 203’ with no lift. 238’ with lift from back spin.
I get 63mph at 31 degrees I get 5’ at 200’ using a 1.5 lift coefficient.
That maybe to generous. I did replicate 3-3.5 feet per mph at 25 degrees.

When Coach Lisle coached at South Carolina he made a statement like “at 26* launch angle and an exit velo of (64?) the ball would be out of most parks they played in.” It was a fairly low exit velo.

I wrote down the 26* number because at the time we were working on launch angle consistency. Long story, had good reasons to do that, wasn’t because of some twitter post.
