Ball to hand/finger contact is very important to pitchers. In the cold weather the ball feels dry, hard and slippery compared to the summer, when sweat can make it feel sticky or sometimes slippery from the moisture. One trick you can try is have her breath into a closed fist, this will add a little bit of tackiness to the ball/hand contact. It only lasts for that pitch but sometimes it helps.
