So if a senior graduates with a degree, they can come back and play their final season without attending school?.....

Just like Olympic athletes who are
Screwed when their countries pull out of the olympics. (Like probably this year) The NCAA should just say sorry it worked out like this, but you’re done. No way to do this where it’s fair to everyone. They are setting a precedent they don’t want to set.

NCAA softball should allow seniors to play a full fall season this upcoming fall. The fall season should include a 64 team bracket for championship (single elimination).
Any more than that will severely impact all incoming classes for years.
The athletes had a full fall, full winter of workouts and 25% of spring.
So they come back to play 8-10 games in the Fall against some low end competition?

Trying to think this through and be fair in my thinking. A number of games have been lost as a result of the virus. Those games can't be made up. If you grant an extension to all four years currently at school then are you not just transferring the loss from this year to the next four years of incoming players?

The freshman '19 player who was likely to have a small playing role this season now gets to add a 5th year to the end. Are they not ending up "ahead" as a result of this?

The '20 class coming in will always have an extra year of players ahead of them their entire career.

I don't think all those that signed the petition in support of this were thinking through all the ramifications Pretty sure most who supported this were thinking of the senior player losing their final season of ball.

If it is only the senior class that gets the exemption then the junior shortstop who has played for three years in the understudy role and was poised to be the starter now never gets that shot.

This really feels like a quick answer was given that really didn't stop to consider all of what it meant by that answer.

There is no way to make everyone in this situation happy. If you grant a extra year to college players already there this year but not to the HS seniors that had there senior year of hs ball cut short or eliminated and now they have extra players at collegiate level they loose twice

Full season or bust. Put an asterisk next to 2020.
It sucks for seniors but life isn’t fair. Things happen that you can’t account for sometimes. Control what you can control, make the best of a bad situation and move on.

I must agree with you MB22! This should be the worst thing that ever happens to these seniors. Yes I know they worked hard and everything but sometimes lousy breaks happen. It is part of life. A great byproduct of bad breaks is developing flexibility. YOU--even if you are the best softball player ever and a college senior--are not the center of the universe. You're just not.

Agree x2
Isnt this social distancing to stop the ripple effect.
How many more people or athletes need to be impacted by yet another oxy moronic decision for next year. End all this as soon as possible and move on.

Yeah it sucks if you are a Senior, but as others have mentioned life is not fair. Your have a right to be upset but life goes on. If softball defines who you are and your reaction is to wallow in self pity, you have learned nothing from the game. Softball is not life. If you feel that it is then you need to reflect on your priorities. If you have learned anything from the game you will deal with this adversity and move on, serving as a role model for those around you.
