I would also like to point out that having a pitcher that can hit give a coach a lot of options with the DP/Flex position to maximize offensive firepower and other position players know that if they are not hitting there is a chance they will not be in the batting order.

it is tough to justify the extra time and money for batting lessons when your DD is taking private pitch lessons and pitching 5 days a week.

This is what happens to a large majority of pitchers. It works itself out as there simply isn't enough time for everything.

On dd's TB team (14U-A), our #1 pitcher is also our best SS and lead off hitter.... Total package athlete, however our #2 pitcher is the worst hitter on the team and we seldom let her bat. Really depends on the kid and what the team needs

One of the girls on Ds high school team was a good pitcher. On a team with 5 quality pitchers, she hardly ever got to pitch. For travel ball, she pitched a lot. She ended up playing left outfield for school ball.Turned out to be an amazing outfielder. I would say she was a better outfielder than pitcher. She had a great arm(she threw from outfield to home for many outs), a lot of speed, and some beautiful diving catches. We sure missed her this past season. She went on to play college ball as an outfielder....D played against her this summer, she was pitching.
