Are too many making a mistake to play college softball?

We can label DePodesta an outlier, but the fact of the matter is that he went to Harvard. I looked up his high school, Episcopal, located in Alexandria. The tuition is over $50,000 a year. I think it's safe to say that was probably a pretty solid investment for their family. :)
It's safe to say it didn't hurt him. :) We don't know how much of his success is due to Harvard because another survey showed students with Ivy credentials fared just as well going to other schools.

Success via attendance at Ivy League schools is akin to playing multiple sports in High School. Attendance at an Ivy League School in and of itself will not make you successful, but those with the traits and habits of successful people will tend to attend those schools. Just as playing multiple sports in High School will not make you an outstanding athlete, but a common trait of athletes is participation in multiple sports.
