I believe the cut-off dates are the same as ASA. I know they are the same for VTD. Whatever the child's age is on January 1st is the lowest age division in which she can play. For example, a girl born December of 1996 must play 14U because she was 13 on January 1st, thus making her inelegible to play 12U. Players can always play up (with some restrictions based on your individual leagues) but are not allowed to play down.

It does seem weird when there's a December 96 and a January 95 on the same team. 7th graders and freshman on the same team! It was even stranger when they were little. Can you imagine fourth graders and and 2nd graders on the same team?

The way it is stated in the rule book, you're correct, but I think we mean the same thing. I didn't explain it very well. Just want to make sure it's clear. Whatever the player's age on December 31st determines her eligibility for the upcoming year. For example, we have a player born January 8th. She was still 14 on December 31st, so she still be eligible to play 14U through the end of the year. It breaks down like this as far as years of birth and current and eligibility:

2003-2004 6U
2001-2002 8U
99-2000 10U
97-98 12U
95-96 14U
93-94 16U
91-92 18U

are there any provisions for a girl to play down? say, for example, an early december 1998 b-day just missed the cutoff for 10u this year (2010). could she play down? im guessing no...

Nope, mine's a December b'day, and she has to play with kids that are sometimes 23 months older than she is. It was rough when she was little, but as she gets older, the difference is not as noticeable.
