Looking to get my 8yr. old daughter a 18oz. composite bat. This is her first year of travel. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are between these 2 bats. Some of the research I have done, sounds like the FS3 is more of an entry level bat. I was also looking at the 2016 FS3 Torq, but it sounds like it might be kind of a gimmick bat. I can get the Xeno used for the same price as the new FS3. Thanks!

Welcome to DFP! Enjoy the ride.

The Xeno is a good step above the FS3 for performance. That said, at 8U there usually isn't enough swing speed being generated to make a difference. Also, if they are playing with RIF balls, the advantages of a top-level composite bat pretty much disappear completely. Many people say that a stiffer bat (alloy), is better with RIF balls.

I just saw the FS3 torq for $100. Might have to buy it and if she does not like the handle it can be taped. The Xeno is probably a better bat though for the same price used.

The problem with both of these bats is they are both heavy! Go look at the bat weight database in the equipment section. A -11 two piece composite bat doesn't seem to exist. Most of them are 1.5 - 2 oz overweight. I had my 7 year old DD try out the LXT, Xeno, and CF9 and she didn't like them...they were all much heavier than her Aluminum Easton FS300 28/17.
