I don't buy a ton of stuff from them but they do carry a pretty decent selection of different sports apparel and equipment. I don't like to see big stores close whether it's Kmart, Sears or Sports Authority.

Sports Authority Bankruptcy

My bad, this link only gives you the headlines at WSJ.

Seems to be a lot of this going around. The local MC Sports store is closing. DD 3 went there with DW, and at this point only 20% off. I think they will try again when the prices drop more.

Could explain why they send a coupon every 5 seconds to me. I never use them though because they NEVER work on their website on anything I'd actually want.

My boss gave me a SA $50 gift card at Christmas. I guess I'd better go buy one under armour shirt.

Just got the email from the CEO..... Our local store has already boxed up and shipped out anything worth value. Dang it! Was hoping to get some balls on the cheap.
It sounds as if they are going to focus on online shopping with a more " streamlined focus".

I got the e-mail today also. I'm not sure if my local store is closing or not. They just moved to a new building about a year ago, so I would imagine it will stay open. I don't buy much from there, but if we happen to in the area we usually stop and look around. They are usually one of the more expensive places to buy stuff from. I did buy a glove from there about a year ago and had to replace it twice now, but returns are fairly easy.

There is one that we drive by on West Colonial Drive in Orlando that never seems to have more than 4 or 5 cars in the lot. DW and I always joked that it must be a front for a money laundering operation. Cannot say that they will be missed around here. On the flip side Academy Sports seems to be opening stores in Central Florida!

To me, Sports Authority for the past 10 years or so has been more of a clothing store masquerading as a sporting goods stores. You could never buy quality equipment or even softballs there. It was all low-end junk.

I would rather buy today and take it home at a store since I don't tend to plan that far ahead, but at least as far as fastpitch goes that's just not possible. Much better quality (not to mention prices) on the Internet. And more of a selection.
