We are at Nationals and the coach told my wife he needs to talk to us when the time is right. He said that since so many girls are aging out that the team will no longer continue after this week. We've done 10 weeks in a row and DD is having the best time of her life and we could go 10 more weeks in a row! These are the best softball families we have ever met as a group. There is another 18U-A team in the organization that the coach says really wants her but he thinks they are not at the same level of play. He did say he was going to assist another travel team and wants DD to come. They have a great reputation and was told 3 players aging out on their team play D-1 and was also told that their hitting coach is outstanding.
It's about 1- 1 1/2 hr away with traffic and even more expensive and this year took its toll on us financially.. DD never has problems making friends and it sounds like a our current pitcher may be going too.
It's tiresome changing teams but we sure have loved this year! I'm not sure what we'll do but at least she wouldn't have to try out this time!

When the rest of the team is aging up and your DD is staying down is one of the acceptable reasons for changing teams. Sounds like a good move to me, and going with her coach would also show me some loyalty in that situation. Enjoy!

Aging out in this case means off to college right?

5 girls are rising sophomores in college and a few will be freshman. Coach wants DD to stay busy this fall and it seemed right with the other team losing several players.

Sorry she has to go through that upheaval when things were going well.
IMHO, you should ask a lot of questions about the "team hitting coach". Frequently this type of position is filled by a cookie cutter type of coach.

IMO, every player on every team should tryout for their team at least once a season. There should be no sense of entitlement that you are guaranteed a spot on the team each year. Players get complacent and feel they are entitled to certain positions, playing time, etc which does them a disservice. I want my DD to work hard to earn a position on the team and to challenge herself for playing time.

With that said, LAS comments have me scratching my head. No player is committed to a team longer than the season, so they shouldn't feel obligated to stay with their current team and should be encouraged to tryout for many teams each year after their current team's season ends, so they can find the right fit and organization for the coming season.

I feel for you. This is the 3rd year my dd has played on her team and she is one of the ones aging out. I am going to miss the team immensely. Great girls, parents, and coaches.

We are kind of the opposite. Nine year old DD's team is aging out to 12u in the spring. We don't have many 2nd year 10u options in the area. She is also established on the team, and likes her team, so 12u we go.

These girls have always had to try out in the past for this team. ..and I can tell you DD busts her butt off so maybe he's not concerned.

IMO, players should be earning their playing time and positions every day in every workout, every practice, and every game, not just during a tryout.
