Having Shay Knighten and Sydney Romero helped a little...and Auburn helped by giving Oklahoma two runs in the first inning of the 3rd game.

Infographic: The recruiting reach of the Power Five conferences

Here are the states that have produced 20 or more players currently on D-I rosters for the Power Five conferences:

Interesting, but reach to me has always been can you recruit out of state? It is much easier to go get the girl down the road - can I get the talent to leave home and come play for me?

That a team like Michigan can get Californian girls to move to the frozen wasteland Ann Arbor can be in Jan/Feb/Mar... that is impressive.

Any idea how in-state vs. out-of-state effects partial scholarships?

Accounting wise it doesn't (colleges will claim value of scholarship is % against full out-of-state full freight tuition)

How this appears for a student - I have always assumed the % offer goes against the actual tuition rate the school provides the student, so it is more a reduction of the amount the student must pay rather than an actual financial transaction. Something like how a 20% off coupon works.

I wonder how they would have done without their trio of California girls in the infield though? IMO they beat Auburn in large part because of the huge disparity at catcher.

I didn't see the huge disparity at catcher. OU's girl is a stud but Wallace is a competitor and through two years has been very clutch. Take away three errors by an all SEC defensive 2B and the series turns out differently. A freshman pitcher matched Parker inning for inning after the errors.

Yeah but... A scholarship can be divided up several ways. As marriard said you can be on a partial scholarship that includes a percentage of Books, Housing, Food, or Tuition. Just like a 20% off coupon. Or you can be on a partial that includes all of some but none of the other. When my DD first signed her NLI at SC she was given full Tuition and Books but no Housing or Food. IIRC the value of her scholarship was listed at "72%" of a full scholarship. We were told at the time that is all they had, but if other money became available they would increase the amount. True to their word shortly after she arrived she received the remainder. In some circumstances a coach may give an in-state student full Books, Food and Housing and let them pony up the in-state tuition. They can then give the Tuition portion to an out of state student where it provides greater value to that student.

Thanks the input!!! I guess the advice to parents would be to calculate their total out-of-pocket expenses vs. percentages.

In-state fees example
10,000 tuition
12,000 lodging
2,000 books
6,000 meals

30,000 total, so a 50% scholarship would still be $15K/year out-of-pocket

Out-of-state fee example
30,000 tuition
12,000 lodging
2,000 books
6,000 meals

50,000 total, so a 50% scholarship would be $25K out-of-pocket
