Does anyone know what the individual player eligibility requirements are? In other words are they using ASA Gold (i.e. no college players) or 18U A (college freshman who are still 18U eligible and younger)?
The Rebels have their first home games of the season next weekend in their 'Red and Blue Classic' tournament. Lot's of softball at the Ole Miss softball complex all weekend (weather permitting :)). We'll be driving down from St. Louis on Friday to catch their home opener against UT Martin.
this from Doug Gillis:
"it's been my experience that pitchers who learn to throw a curve before a rise will rarely master the rise. However, pitchers who learn to throw a rise before the curve usually have little issue in learning to throw a curve."
So, if you take the advice of one of the...
Do you think the OP knows that Tim McCarver was Gibson's catcher with the Cardinals before they traded McCarver off with Steve Carlton to the Phillies? I guess I've been declared officially old too...
I rarely used a 'hit and run' while coaching fastpitch. The hit and run is common in baseball because of double plays. Double plays in fastpitch are rare. With that being said it is effective sometimes if a shortstop is aggressively shadowing 2nd base with a runner at first. If the shortstop...
I'd check with the Germantown (Memphis area) Red Devils Organization. That may be too much distance from Nashville for 12U but their teams have a long tradition (I think nearly 30 years) of being very competitive on a national level. I believe their 16U team placed 2nd at the 2012 ASA/USA...
I learned this from Doug Gillis. Hold the ball deeper in your palm and move your thumb closer to your index finger. Everything else in the mechanics stays the same.
I see that you are located in Mississippi. I would recommend attending either the Mississippi State or Ole Miss softball camps. My daughter had been attending the Ole Miss camps ever since Windy Thees took over that program. She will be attending Ole Miss next fall and playing softball for...
I'm not sure anymore but a former student of Doug's from Michigan who transferred to Mizzou and graduated in 2009 used to do lessons in Columbia. Her name is Stacy Delaney. I think her last name may have changed after getting married. You may want to look her up. Gillis still uses video...
Over the past 4 years Gillis has done monthly 'clinics' at Mizzou during the Fall and Winter (October - March). We started attending the sessions the first year and at that time he would only take about 6 - 8 students for each 3 hour session. Now, the clinics are well advertised and he'll have...
Were you at a Mizzou game? I know that Doug Gillis uses the 'punch' analogy to describe how he teaches his change up. My DD has taken lessons from Doug. It's a variation of the 'shove' change up. You press the ball back into your palm and place the thumb next to the index finger. To limit...
