I agree that parents should know (if they so choose) where their agreed upon amount of money goes. However in this case the only thing that needs to be listed would "scholarship funds". If I was the org head and/or HC and somebody asked who was getting the scholarship I would politely tell them that those things are not disclosed.
Thats an EXCEPTIONAL POINT!
Knowing in advance there is this fund! Your dues provide~
Also gives people a sense of donation to a great cause!
Also lets others know who may need it can use it!

this is upfront knowing you've already contributed and that would be a different type of financial allocation if it's a resource everyone knows about it and can use.

But what if the scholarshipped player parent drive up in their $160,000 2020 Bendz? (I know it is just a lease)LOL

Of course it is happening. Under the guise of scholarship.

I suppose that makes sense.

So where does the money come from? Does the team have donors? Rich coach? Parents who want their Sally to win so badly they'll pay Sarah's dues?

But it made me realize that there sure could be people getting free rides just to join certain teams. Anyone know of that happening? Based just on talent? Well, other than college that is. :D
Yes

Another question that begs an answer. Have you ever granted "no dues" arrangement to a less than average player? Have you ever added to your roster a less than average player that can pay dues? You know, that number 14 "utility" player. LOL Many have!

It gets weird fast, though.

If I'm paying thousands of dollars (which I am) and $500 of it is for "scholarship funds" then my brain goes right to "so who's getting my $500?". And then I'm thinking "is she worth it? She made 6 errors last weekend." Or we think "that family doesn't need our money, they have a better house than we do." Or people starting wondering if the coaches are just pocketing that money.

Parents will be talking non-stop, people will be bitching and moaning. I really don't see it working out at all. And I'm one of the ones that would be most cool about it. I know most parents I encounter would not.

here's another perspective the coach has a great intention runs his team the whole season dues were $200 a month. At the end of 10 months there's people questioning where some of the money went so how come they didn't get to play in that one big tournament in summer when everybody else did. Reason Not enough team funds.

where did $2,000 go?

did the coach take $2,000 or did a player not pay $2,000?

what if there are two or three players on the team who didnt pay?
People tend to count the players on the roster and add up dues to come to a monthly amount.
if they are counting players as paying dues who are not actually paying dues there's a big Financial questionmark?

just saying as a coach you might want to cover your rear by letting people know what you're doing instead of covering up what you're doing with people's money. Just saying 💁

Who is the arbitrator that decides if they cant afford the dues? What if I gave up my cable TV so my DD could play but the player you "scholarshipped" still has their cable TV. What if the scholarshipped players family earn more money than some of the other families on the team.
At some point we would have to have every family disclose the income and have a sliding scale for dues.
If you are going to bring on a new player that is not going to pay dues i think it is everybody's right to know.
Disagree....this is what I don't think other families have the right to know. We give an accounting of money in and money out but team dues are simply marked paid or unpaid.

The ones bitching and moaning can leave then.

I am not sure where you stand on various government entitlement programs (nor do I want to know..lol) but in any case, do you ask the government to see exactly what families benefitted from your tax dollars?

I doubt most private teams have scholarships, most programs like this would be from larger orgs and the scholarship funds would be a pool of money from many teams in the org. If you don't want your money going to somebody else, unlike taxes (lol) you have a choice to not join said team/org..right? If you decide to join then you know that some of your money will be used to help some kid who is (hopefully and unfortunately..) less fortunate than your kid. If the idea bothers you then make sure that is one of the questions which you ask before joining the team...

IMO if we want the game to draw the best athletes it can, these programs are important. I see a lot of 6' point guards at P5 schools who could have been great SS/CF's....

literally i do not know any teams that the organization follows or knows about individual team finances.
Zero connection to how individual teams finances are handled.

(How did i turn on bold print lol...not intended)
