When we have a kid swing with the bat in the neck slot or against the rear deltoid don't the shoulders have to initiate the turn? If you don't like those drills then I guess my question is pointless but I've used it with my dd and have tried it myself and that's what I feel.

I don't see that with Brett

It all depends on where the intent is. If the force production is in the middle of the body, there will be no need to feel like activating the shoulders. The first thing I would check to see is if she is balanced. Getting stuck happens a lot which can cause compensations etc.

I teach a kid hand path and a movement type drill to get them off the backside to feel where they should be into contact. Like the Happy Gilmore or feet together step and hit. Done from the oppo tee position. Takes time.

Conservation of force(energy) says you cannot change force. It cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another.
Just to clarify:

There is no conservation law for force. There is a conservation law for energy (not the same thing), a conservation law for mass and a balance law for momentum (both angular and linear). In continuum mechanics (which is what you are invoking when you mention conservation of energy) force doesn't even show up in the field equations.

Yeah. Conservation of energy. I was using force in place of energy. In this case doesn’t it apply?

Edit: probably not.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong but I do. I see the lower half start, his hands start to get "set", pull back, shoulders move, elbow slots and hands go.
Shoulders move for sure but imo, like you said, lower half/core (and imo hands) cause/initiate movement. Somebody who swings with their shoulders is going to swing "around" the ball imo.

I've been on this forum now for about 2 years and have learned a ton and have a ton more to learn. The thing I've struggled to "get" is the turning the barrel concept. I understand that it turns, just can't execute it the way most say to. I always feel like the elbow slotting plays a bigger role than most on here say and I also feel like my shoulders are more involved. When I swing the way that feels right to me it is more powerful and faster. I see the same thing with my dd. Does that mean I'm doing it right? I'm not sure. I will say that dd has started hitting better since moving to the left side last January to slap and relearn swinging away using what I can from this forum but maybe with my own interpretations. When she was swinging from the right she was over rotating a lot and coming out of posture, She has definitely made huge improvements.

I was probably unclear in my initial question. I meant that the shoulders start the upper moving once the lower half start. Sorry.
