This high school girl jumps off the mound, without dragging, and replants. Is this a crow hop? What should the call be? This was a high school ball game. The officials refused to call it. I thought this was illegal. We lost the game by one run.

Boy that’s so close. I’m sure she isn’t touching the ground
But I suppose the umps didn’t consider it grows negligence.

Had the video been clearer, she definitely doesn’t touch/drag, and her back foot replants before front foot lands. I’m no expert.

Yeah I’m sure that’s what was happening and if so it is a crow hop. However , it’s the umps discretion regardless. Too bad.

We’ve had this conversation before (good video example BktMom!) ...

Not a crow hop. It’s a leap.

The drag foot does not “replant” — meaning land and push off again. Instead it acts as a fulcrum. The weight comes up off of the drag foot and then, as the body is moving forward, the drag foot “catches” (lands?) catapulting the body forward from that pivot or tipping point.

There has been some hot and heavy debate on the legality of that assuming the drag foot stays in contact with the ground. Yes, it is physically possible to achieve this, despite NFHS’s statements (or was it NCAA? Now I don’t recall). Since NFHS has no language about supporting weight, this is legal with a legal drag.

The video is hard to tell, but I (in my own personal opinion) would say that the way her foot turns when she “tips” indicates she was not keeping contact with the ground.

Illegal....maybe.

Never, ever will be called though. Especially on a dirt field.

My DD's entire high school career I have only seen one illegal pitch called. And it was because the official calling it had no clue....his claim was "she has to maintain contact with the pitching rubber until the ball is released". He was overruled by the plate umpire.

The Man in Blue is correct as well, regarding the replant. If you want to spot a true replant, don't watch the legs. Watch the arm circle. A replant will always cause a hitch in the arm circle that can be seen a mile away.
