14U rec., DD mentioned it last night.

When DD was pitching last year an opposing Team figured out stating to yell out when she started pitching threw her off a little bit. They would randomize it, sometimes yell sometimes not. An adult in the dugout organized the whole thing.

Then the 3rd base coach got involved, as soon as DD started pitching she would yell something.

Absolutely nothing inappropriate in what either what the players or coaches were yelling.

Any rule against this?

I think this shows no class by the other team's adults, if it happens again I am going to call them out both to the leaque and social media, does that make sense?

Some folks are always going to play like bush leaguers. Some coaches manage timed games with excessive time outs. Some defensive players jump up and down. Some coaches and players vocalize from the dugout or /and box. It's low, IMHO.

I prefer to do what I taught my DD a long time ago: accept the behaviors. Stay in her zone and focus on the batter. Cheering for her or chanting against her is moot, because she doesn't hear anything except her coach.

She is actually pretty good about that, what really annoyed me was the 3rd base coach yelling at her.

She yelled something else while looking right at the circle.

^^ That kind of stuff is classless and disrespectful of the game. Let them be unsportmanlike. Beating teams like that feels pretty doggone good, even to me in my chair behind the outfield fence :)

It's just so cool when adults act like bratty children, isn't it? What a tool. It's bad enough when kids act like that.

No ASA/PONY, etc rules against it. However, if this is rec league, you might be able to get it into the good sportmanship / zero tolerance rules and bylaws. It's good for your DD to learn to play against it because it wont be the last time it happens. However, it would be beneficial for your rec league to set the tone that this is not what the league stands for.

For our part, DD doesn't like the chanting and was glad she joined a club that encourages cheering for your teammates and picking them up vs chanting against the other teams.

Is there a DFP thread for most hated chants? There must be. "too high, too high, you almost hit her eye..." It's like trying to get a bad justin bieber song out of your head.

If I am petty I can attack thier pitchers, it is not going to happen. That is what annoys me most, they are so cleaver that they can throw a 12U off and they are proud of it.

I will go about it a different way, I did not think it was a against the rules but I thought I would ask first.l

Well, that coach gets to go home and live with the fact that he would rather mess with a kid than teaching his team to hit.

Your dd gets to go home with a little more practice dealing with adversity and learning to compete.

What an idiot.

Went through this a couple of years ago. There was another good team that we played a lot. They had 1 player that would always scream with a real high pitch when the pitcher was at release. She would always say "Hey pitcher!" We played a lot of NSA so I looked at the rules and there wasn't any rules about yelling perse, but there is a rule that the other team is not allowed to yell at the other team and use their legal name. I joked with DW that we should change DD's name to Pitcher.

Well, as annoying as the cheering may sometimes be, it is allowed.

However, it is allowed as support for one's teammates. If it really becomes a problem, you could approach the umpire with the argument that it is unsportsmanlike conduct if it is obvious the cheering is more in line to be timed with and directed toward the opposing pitcher or batter. It is an unsure sell and may or may not be accepted as a valid point by the umpire. Whatever you do, don't get into an argument with the umpire, that will not help.

Speaking ASA, AFA the base coach, s/he is forbidden by rule to address players of the opposing team (4.7.C.4), so that can be stopped immediately.
