So after hearing where you played..... I was pissed at the umps too. First game plate meeting: We are playing finish the batter...calls drop dead when I have runners in scoring position down two and biggest batter up to bat.
Had a game where fans were literally dropping F bombs towards my players and parents and umpire did nothing. Fan had to be escorted out by the police. Sunday after we are eliminated... another coach calls me and tells me that a coach punched an umpire in the face.
So it was a cluster of a tourney and I won't be playing any more DFWFastpitch tourneys again.

But no excuse for how your coach acted either

S2 - I may not have been clear - I was suggesting that if this is an established organization, it may be easier to swap out the coach than to try to find a new team. (And no - I wouldn't recommend this if this is truly a one-off, the heat got to me, I slept on a pile of sticks last night kind of moment). If this is consistent behavior, I feel the onus is on the org to provide a proper coach, in order to avoid a mass exodus of players.

I coached for 2 organizations and both were very serious about providing quality coaching. They provided some coach training and would occasionally attend practices. Neither got involved beyond that. Both took parent and player complaints very seriously. I was never reported for anything but I knew of coaches that were and one that was replaced. If this is an ongoing issue with one of the orgs I'm talking about I'm quite sure the situation would be investigated.

If you read the news - which I don't necessarily recommend - it seems like rage incidents are increasing everywhere in the U.S. Only natural that we would see this in youth sports which are borderline nuts to begin with. Still, it's sad.

So, the coach enters his team in a B tournament, but he won't accept anyone saying he has a B team?
Yep, that's what he told me. He said we have beaten A class team before and therefore we are an A class team.

Every team has their days, those same teams have run ruled us before too.

The USSSA director in Texas will let you know really quick when you reach A status. He has some if the strictest standards around. Win more than a couple of B tournaments and you will find yourself in A.

SOooo...we have ended our relationship as of this afternoon. Coach called today and basically started with a semi-apology, then he went into he was ready to cut my DD (really me) on Monday but had reconsidered. Then he proceeded to tell me that most of the coaches he had talked with would have made my DD sit the next tournament out because of me. Also, that he had at least 3 to 4 A Class pitchers who couldn't wait to be on his team.

I let him talk, then call DW and the Kid. Decision was made and I called him back and let him know we had decided to part ways to preserve our friendship and that we wished them luck and success. We already have a pickup opportunity this weekend in East Texas with a team that is just fun for the kid to play with. Picked up with them in the past and they are a blast. Plus they are near the grandparents who never get to see her play.

I don't understand how someone can think it is OK to talk with 12-13 y/o's that way. There was definitely a remedy that could have made it work. I apologized till I was red in the face, but I guess he couldn't help but make comments to make us know that we were expendable. We will be fine. Just chalk it up to experience.

You know what? The coach telling the kids not to pick up trash in the dugout is such a JUVENILE move that that would probably be enough for me. Depending on how many tournaments are left this summer, I would probably start mounting a search for a new team right then and there. Even without any of the other yelling or tantrums.

ETA: Just saw your post. I think it's the best move since he's clearly going to take his frustration with you out on your DD.

The guy is a loser. The not picking up the trash would have put me over the edge. I would have pick up the trash myself and I would have quit right there. The head of the org. would be made aware of this jerks actions and everybody on heybucket, facebook and DFP would also know. I would name names and take photos to compliment my posting. Make Coaching Great Again.
