You know what would be really interesting would be to do it wikipedia style, where anyone can come in and add/edit an entry in a hitting encyclopedia....I'm not sure there would be consensus or a final word on edits for even the simplest of terms and concepts :)

There is a little O'Leary in all of us. Isn't there?
I see your point. With all these esoteric terms, we do need a source of quick reference.

If O'Leary is unknown to some, he's a lot like FFS only he has a money making website.
O'Leary is the king of make believe terms.
My personal favorite is "the inverted W". This refers to how a baseball pitcher breaks their hands during the pitching motion.
I, at the time of his "the inverted W' unavailing, tried to unvail my own term; "the M'. It did catch on.

Now that I've had a few years to think about it, I should have called it "the inverted double V".
That would have caught on.

I don't think inverted W was coined by O Leary

Directly from his website:

"The Inverted W

The Inverted W, which I originally called The M, is a term that is used to refer to one of a family of problematic pitching arm actions that include the. . ."

Sure sounds like he's laying claim to it in the above statement.

He also has an inverted "V", an inverted "L".

I can't for the life of me figure out why you would bring this up.
My point was and is; these make up phrases don't add anything except more confusion to the teaching process.
At least that has been my experience.

I'll go back to hibernating now. Carry on. Say hello to Steve for me.
Thanks

Did not mean to offend. My apologies.

Inverted W goes back at least to Paul Nyman far before Chris. O'Leary is an interesting observer but, to my knowledge (years back admittedly), a compiler of other's thoughts rather than a creator of original ideas or viewpoints. He was never careful about credit but he worked very hard at explaining what he believes.

To me, the most recent interesting redefining of an old term was Right View declaring that all swings were both linear and rotational thus completely turning any historical definition of a "linear" swing on it's head. I'm unaware of Chris doing something like that but then I haven't read him much. Not at all in years.

O'Leary also claims to have invented the Question Mark "?". olearys.jpg

All CO is stating here is that what he used to refer to as "The M", he now refers to as "The Inverted W".

He is not making a claim of invention.

Yeah I don't think I ever heard him claim an invention but he hasn't been quick to credit where he picked things up from either. Having said that, I have no problem with Chris.
