Good points. I would say a good PC is useful now and then.
A bad PC is worse than no PC.

There are a lot of pitching coaches in town with a lot of students. DD 3 never used any of them.

As Yogi Berra said, you can observe a lot just by watching.
DD 3 observed some pitchers, and copied them. Unfortunately they were HE style.
I noticed DD 1 was on a good TB team at the time, and HC pitched men's fast pitch. I also noticed how good his DD was at pitching, only having worked with her father and other men's fast pitch pitcbers.
DD 1's former HC has given DD 3 occasional tips and lessons since then. Mostly it's been DD 3 teaching herself.
DD 3 learned her change up while practicing with the big girls' team. PC's DD showed her the change up. When DD showed her PC the change up, he was floored. We had to explain that his DD taught it.

Moral: a girl who is really devoted to pitching can learn a lot on her own. I've known some girls who see a PC twice a week. DD 3 sees a PC several times each year. If a girl can remember what her PC said, and apply the lessons in her own practice, she only needs occasional help from a PC
I think a good pc is priceless, if your area has them. I'm not aware if any in my area that teaches IR, although i have seen girls at tb tournaments that use it. I didn't mean they are not needed, if not for them, there wouldn't be this great resource of information. In our experience, this place can get you started in the right direction.

the biggest myth is that pushing a ball down a circle is even pitching. The truth is that there is only one way to throw a ball underhand and whether a PC teaches it or not, if a girl is still pitching with any success at the 12U travel ball level then she is using some amount of I/R. I grab video of random pitchers all the time and I still have not seen a true pusher at any decent level. I used to think a girl maybe able to get to 55 with pushing, now I think that ceiling is 45.

The second biggest myth is that contact with your hip is a no no. How big a myth is this? EVERY time I see a girl I call a bender/clearer she has poor low/high control.

While there are some very good even great coaches in college there are just as many that are anything but. This is especially true when it comes to pitching. If you are truly fortunate you get someone like Rick Pauly, but many more players will find that they are on their own once they get to college.

Another myth is that playing at a high level of TB somehow prepares you to play in college. More than a few players from marquee TB teams find themselves in over their head at Big Name U and spend their time charting pitches and chasing down foul balls.

Myth: you've "raised a P1" therefore you know everything about pitching
Truth: you know about your DDs path to pitching

Myth: playing in college makes you a fastpitch expert
Truth: you might know something or you might be regurgitating what was taught to you

Myth: the more pitches you have the better
Truth: have a few strong pitches you can be accurate with

Myth: no one throws a fastball beyond 12u
Truth: fastballs are still thrown, even in the NPF

Myth: each pitch has different mechanics
Truth: each pitch has different finger pressure or hand movement. Core mechanics should be the same

Myth: having the big name PC guarantees you success
Truth: success comes from good instruction, failure, hard work and repetition

speed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a myth...but definitely an exaggeration, often prodded by delusion, and sometimes creeping into an outright lie. With a nod and a smile, I've listened to school ball pitching parents brag about how fast their kids are and how great they do on their super-select-deluxe travel ball team, only to see them walk bottom-of-the-order batters with the game on the line, and then get torched by the top of the order. I've also watched them drop easy fly balls, and air-mail throws to 1B and elsewhere. When it comes to their kid's pitching, many have only the most tenuous hold on their sanity.

Myth:

Bucket Dads are tougher than nails.

Truth:

Watch those Bucket Dads get hit in the shins or other parts and watch them tear up.

The pitchers I work with are not my daughters, and each of them has at least one VERY TENDER spot on my left shin that I can hardly tolerate touching with my finger. Each pitcher seems to hit her same spot when hitting my shin as if to let me they are in charge. I've thought of super-gluing a shin-guard to my left shin because of this.
