Some wear the hair bow to proclaim their preference for the opposite sex.

As a lifetime resident of the Los Angeles area, with good friends from a pretty diverse range of backgrounds, this is something I have not encountered.
Interesting, since like just about everything else related to softball, I believe this is where it started.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but this is the FIRST I've ever heard that it might be a "thing" to wear a bow or not.
If I were to ask all of my dozen 12/13 year olds, I am pretty sure more than half would know of this "thing" and perhaps even more. I know my own DD first mentioned it when she was 11.
Must be a local thing. I've never heard it in the Midwest. There are way too many accessories to mean much of anything other than how it makes them look.
Is this a softball-only thing, or have you heard this outside the fences, too?
