If 1b is fielding a grounder, do you have the pitcher cover 1st? My vote is no, but others disagree. Fwiw we are talking 10u here although I don't know if my feelings would change at any age. Thanks.
No. It is nearly impossible for a girl pitching from 35' to beat a fairly quick left-handed hitter to first base. It isn't much easier from 40', either.
Thank you! I spent years playing softball, never once was I taught that pitcher covers first. I thought I was missing something. My daughter is fairly fast, long legs help her cover a lot of ground without looking like she is going fast(in comparison to other 10 year olds) coach kept telling her to go faster to get to first. Cause she couldn't make it. (She is a little slow to accelerate ). Anywho, they spent 30 mins on this. While I am sitting there thinking how it is impossible. And knowing that there is no way that they will ever do this in a game. Lol. First year on this team. Why is it so hard to find a team? oh well dd is #1 pitcher by a mile and the coaches don't have dd pitchers. That's what we were looking for this year. Hoping to find a home at a 12u
On my 18U team when there is a fast slapper my 2B has to sprint full out to 1B to be in time for the throw. No way a pitcher gets there. When you get a 2B that can get there and handle the throw with somebody sprinting right at her you are very fortunate.
