I think the stride length is often over-emphasized. Having said that, if she would pop her hips to fully open when she kicks her stride foot out, I think that would increase her leap length.

With regards to all the things mentioned, does she do the walk-in drill well?

I agree Doug but she looks to me like she is a step style pitcher and not Leap and drag! I think in this case it should be adressed!

Yes she may solve a couple problems with the walk in drill also! It may get her to FEEL the feeling of expolding forward and its possible that she will open her shoulders naturally doing this drill. Good suggestion!

It will be addressed somewhat automatically if she pops those hips fully open and she does that kick-out with her stride foot.

I like the walk-in where I do it beside them. I go "Step, step, LEAP" to get them use to not just using another step for the leap. I even refer to the leap as a little "hang-time."

What pitch is she throwing? IMO, it looks similar to a screwball. Stepping left and throwing back inside.

Cape Cod Mass.
This is the type of motion which makes me reluctant to teach keeping the ball and hand in the glove and not have a backswing. Watch what happens as she brings the glove/hand/ball up in front of her. They are actually left of the center line, so the start of arm circle is way off line. It's just about impossible to open properly when everything starts so far off line. I would get her to focus on what the glove/hand/ball are doing on the upswing, she should be pushing them at the target, not way to the left. She also has to get the ball out of glove earlier, it's still in there when they go out of view.

Sluggers is correct about her footwork not being good, but when the ball is released her right toes are still on the ground..she's not stepping forward until the ball is gone.

No, you are wrong. She is falling forward and to the right, so she has to use her right leg to catch herself.

In other words, *SHE IS OFF BALANCE*.

The right leg coming around causes the hips to rotate. The hips are connected to the spine, and there is only so far that the hips can turn until the spine starts rotating, causing the torso to rotate. You've got a chain reaction which is throwing off her motion.

Take her out and have her do it at full speed.

I bet you $5.00 she can't go out right now and do this simple drill:

That clip of Osterman is so RICH with information on pitching mechanics!

Yup, I saved it in the "Elite Pitcher" file!
