My 8 YO DD has Sever's syndrome in her heel and wearing cleats is the worst thing she can do. The doctor basically says that cleats are uncomfortable and the best thing is to limit how long she wears them. Has anyone found cleats that are really comfortable. I know some of you have kids who've dealt with Sever's or similar ailments. Thanks!

We bought DD whatever they had a Sports Authority and DD seems happy with them. Does you DD wear and ankle brace? That seems to help my DD a lot but I would guess each kid is different.

You could try a turf shoe maybe, they still give traction, but spread out the weight more.I have bought them for my dd in the past from Boombah they were not that expensive.Just so you know my dd does not have Sever's syndrome,so only going by comfort here.

And I learned through being around fat old men that played a lot of softball, to always throw the cheap insoles away and go to a running store and get good insoles.

I will say that Ringor is definitely NOT what you want. My dd wears them because she pitches and tears up regular cleats, but says they are heavy as bricks and her feet hurt by the end of a tournament.

Mike2, unfortunately those are the cleats she has! We may try turf shoes if its flares up this fall when she's also playing soccer, at least for practice.

12YO DD is currently battling heel pain (probably Sever's as she has grown 2" this summer).

She has worn running shoes to practice this week...horrible traction, but less pain than cleats.

Here is what we are trying:
- 1/4" heel lifts - Short term to improve symptoms
- Stretch calf, Achilles, and hamstring 2 times per day
- Ice heel 2 times per day
- Avoid barefoot activities - Wear good tennis/running shoes
- Avoid cleats - Trying turf shoes
- Reduce running activities initially
- Ibuprofen after activities

I just ordered a pair of lacrosse turf shoes (see link). They are supposed to be a lot more cushioned and supportive than softball cleats. She will try them this weekend. I am concerned with traction...we'll see.

I also looked at these...a lot of slowpitch men have been have good result with them.

Good luck and let us know if you find anything that helps her with the Sever's.

Deboy, those are all things that the doctor recommends for Sever's, otherwise they just have to wait until they are grown. Rest and ibuprofen help the most but the amount of rest that's required is really not practical in-season. I'll look into some of those shoe ideas.
