Lets see that plate presence folks...I became a big fan of swagger watching Alex Hugo last year. The way she conducts herself when she approaches the box, how loose she is in the box. Absolutely loved it. Here is a clip, it doesn't show, her full routine but she looks loose and confident.

I spent a lot of time talking to my girls about just going into the box with some swagger, remembering their successes, looking at the outfield and saying to themselves "I am hitting the ball hard right to that spot"...mixed results, my older one still looks timid, but the little one is starting to have some swagger and looseness that she did not have last year.

So post your kid's swagger.

So Cal
As you mentioned in the thread about my 10yo, she could use a little more swagger and looseness in the box.

My dd is doing something wrong I guess, she just walks up there and hits the ball.

lets see it Chinamigarden. The thread wasn't intended to say a kid is doing something wrong, more of a look at plate presence as an aspect of hitting. If she walks up and hits then that is swagger. Swagger doesn't mean that a kid pounds the plate or does something out of the ordinary to me, it means that their body language says that hitting is no big deal and they are confident at the plate. During the WCWS we watched a lot of hitters and I saw some with eyes as big as saucers and they looked tense and some that were just non-chalant. There was one at bat that Hugo had and I remembered remarking to my daughters that this girl thinks she can hit a home run every at bat. Then she blasted one out of the park.

So does mine. Well, she doesn't always hit it. ...

I absolutely agree that confidence is an asset. But I also think that if you put up Alex Hugo numbers, then any style that you happen to have will be considered cool and confident. It can be a chicken/egg thing. I'd like to see 10 hitters on video and try to guess which ones are the best hitters based on their 'swag' in the batters box. Wonder if there is anything to it.

Love this thread. My DD does a quick wave of her bat while she waits. I asked why and she said that she was watching Discovery Channel and they had a show about rattle snakes and how they rattle their tail, as a warning, before they strike. So, she said she rattles her bat as a warning to the pitcher. Kids. lol
