When the umpire's strike zone is the size of your cell phone you're best off pitching someone on the low end of your ladder. We had an ump who was calling it that way, our #1 got so frustrated that I had to pull her. I figured that if he isn't going to call strikes anyway I may as well put someone out there who doesn't throw very many of them.

Trying to make 10U pitchers 'throw it in a box' doesn't help anyone. I can have my pitchers figure out a high/low/outside/inside umpire - but they need a strike zone to throw into. They really don't need a 'You must throw it right where the batter would put it on a tee' strike zones either.

This is especially true with the real small players who barely have a strike zone at all. At least when they get older the strike zone is naturally bigger just because the players are bigger as well.
