A while back, there was a conversation about when to get the front foot down. I happen to have a 20FPS clip in my public library that I thought might add some value to the conversation.

Here's Lindsay Walker of South Carolina hitting a hard single to left field.*

Lindsay Walker uses a double tap as her timing mechanism. Her front heel starts to lift in Frame 6, just after the pitcher has broken her hands. She starts to come out of her back tap in Frame 12, when the pitcher is at the K position. She then reaches the top of her leg lift in Frame 15, when the pitcher is at the release point. Her front foot doesn't plant, and her shoulders don't start to rotate, until Frame 20, by which time the ball is roughly 2/3 of the way to the plate.

* I was generally unimpressed by SC, what with all of their slapping, but Lindsay Walker's got a heck of a swing.
