iMlearning .... regarding your daughter and the hips being oriented towards opposite field, see if she has the rear leg action you see below, ... leading 'swing launch'.

I'd say yes to all of those except the lower is not nearly that good. We've been focusing on that this off season... Hopefully Howe doesn't mind me posting this "I love her rear hip flexion. That rear hip flexion combined with rear hip abduction - wants to create IR in the rear hip. At the same time, there are external rotators that are keeping that knee in place. I'm just asking that she hold that a bit longer while the front side is set up."
Her coach wants her to let her lower half loose...

The reverse hand drill will help a hitter feel extension. Just like I stated years ago when I made this video of my daughter.

Too bad 5 cant appreciate someone posting a hitter, especially when it is the posters own daughter. I would say 5 has nothing good to say about me or my daughter and has been hounding me for years.

His daughter had a .163 batting avg her freshman year in college and either got cut her sophomore year or quit playing.
Maybe he has a sour taste in his mouth from that, because what he taught her did not work...Not my fault....
He then takes it out on any poster that does not agree with him. Also not my problem.

Maybe he will grow up some day and realize what he teaches does not work and try to learn from successful people.

Straightleg

Oh boy...so you post pics of you daughter and use it as an example of what's right but then you complain when others post your kid..whom you put out there....then in the same thread you post another shot of you daughter, this makes no sense. If you don't want you kid out there...don't post her. And I'd say her swings far from perfect. Then you proceed to dog another mans dd? Talking about the kid is wrong.

I don't see the fbc with Fielder. I see him uncoiling. Does he coil his hips with the knee cock? Megan Bush(other page) looks like she is fbc. Am I seeing it wrong?

Looks like she turns her rear hip pocket toward pitcher as she falls forward. He looks like he is already there.

...what he taught her did not work...

The following isn't about FFS's or SL's DDs, but about the larger picture of hitting and mechanics...

There are a lot of us (myself included) who chase the ideal of understanding and teaching high-level hitting mechanics that match up with what the best hitters are doing in order to improve our DD's success at the plate. This is a valid concept. Better mechanics equals better hitting - suddenness, power, etc.

However, that's not the only factor involved with hitting a moving ball with a stick, and NOT the most important factor.

The athletic ability and coordination required to get the barrel of the bat in contact with the ball is the single biggest determining factor in hitting success. This ability can be improved with work, and mechanics can help get the most out of their ability, but there is a limit with most players. That limit is what will have the most affect on a hitter's success as they progress in the sport. The players that reach the highest levels of the game, and continue to have tremendous success, are gifted with the ability to make that connection happen at a level that most of us will never get near.

My point is, perfect swing mechanics don't necessarily equal hitting success. You still have to get the stick on the ball.

Looking at (what I know about) Cannonball's DD as an example, CB has stated a few times that BB isn't a great natural athlete. She has worked hard to build strength and speed, and this has certainly helped her success. There are some who say that BB's swing mechanics could be better. Maybe that's true. However, there is no arguing about the success she has had on the field. "Natural athlete" or not, she is gifted with the athletic skill of getting her bat to the ball under challenging circumstances. Without that skill, the story is much different.

(IMO, YMMV)

As for FFS's DD...

SL - Do you know for a FACT that she was cut because of her BA, or that she quit because of lack of success on the field? Is it possible that she was injured? Maybe she found that she couldn't balance what she NEEDED to do for her education with what she WANTED to do on the field (this has been the story a couple of my friend's DDs). After all, for ALMOST ALL college softball players, there isn't another step up the ladder in the sport, but there is a job/career that may be largely affected by academic success.

Hey Playaction,
Check this thread at BBD:
Patten and Sequence thread at BBD

IME, most high level hitters have some degree of visible coiling forward action as part of their sequence to time ball in flight from pitcher release.
