Just got a text from my sister-in-law. Her friend has a daughter who has a scholarship to start college ball this fall. Took a liner off the face this weekend in a tournament. Fractured facial bones and internal bleeding. Career may be over. According to SIL, she wasn't wearing a mask because her new college coach told her she "didn't need it."

My DD almost seriously injured a pitcher last week who wasn't wearing a mask. The line shot was headed for her neck/face area. Fortunately, that's where her glove was and she, miraculously, was able to catch it. There was no way she could have moved out of the way of it. Nothing against my DD but I am so glad that she was able to catch it with her glove and not her face/neck.
Anyone else watch the CWS? See the UF 1B wearing a mask? Didn't get the backstory.
If this is the player your SIL was talking about, thankfully she appears to be on her way to full recovery and maybe this will provide a little humble pie for the college coach...
