So here's the latest from DD's school. The baseball field is literally 20 feet away. This is so bizarre! 457 people allowed in a gym but no one can attend softball in the outdoors. Meanwhile, the announcers, the scorekeepers get to sit next to each other elbow to elbow at the same table.

Is there something really bizarre with the field layout that makes separation impossible? Or the spectators have to walk through the dugout to get to the bleachers? I just can't figure out why softball is zero??? Maybe the coach only recruits players that have "those parents", except for you of course, and it's an easy solution... Seems like we need Paul Harvey to give us "the rest of the story". Something doesn't add up

I am beginning to think the coach doesn't care for spectators.

Saw an article that Big 10 will allow limited spectators for basketball tournament.

It is important that schools/conferences continuously evolve their approach.

Yesterday, I emailed the athletic director a very long email asking if they have forgotten about the softball team because the team feels that way. The ONLY sport in the entire Conference that can't have spectators. He actually responded quickly saying they are trying to work on something to get approved for this weekend. Unfortunately, I canceled my flight for this weekend.

ETA: DD just called me and said the AD came out to talk to the softball players, and said nothing about fans being able to attend games. Basically told them they need to come out and play hard and you have to want it. Laughable. DD said no one spoke up about the attendance policy for fear of coach retaliation. DD said it was like he was telling them how to do their jobs. They were all pissed.

Has your DD gotten any news on her injury?
She went to the Dr. on Tuesday. She thought she was getting an MRI but that facility does not have the machine. She called yesterday to tell me that the MRI is now scheduled for Thursday. Still don't know if there is a tear. She tried hitting on Monday and it starting bothering her. They told her it might be her "hamstring tendonitis" bothering her. We shall see.

There seems to be a real change in the way that many colleges are treating their athletes, and it seems especially common and negative at smaller, liberal arts, DIII schools. Athletic Directors that don't care about why the recruited athletes are at the schools, College Presidents that are so disconnected from life in the real world that they just don't care about the athletes dreams and the work they've put in to compete in sports.
