Anytime you turn the hips/hip actively before the hands launch you will early extend. It’s a rollover-cast every time on an outside or off speed pitch.

This is why the pros speak of their hands. This is why they want to stay square. Leveraging the shift/middle on time is what the goal is. They want to get the ‘foot down early’. The early ‘rotation’ you see on video is the body making space, not force applied.

In good swings the hands launch the ‘force’. Until then it’s being harnessed and filtered. As mentioned before on numerous threads, the bat turns up during extension of the hips. Can’t swing down if you’re actively rotating the hips (you dissipate the ability to use the vertical force accumlated).. the bat will stay down and through contact like we see on JLs thread. He has her actively ‘squishing the bug’ or rotating the hips, hence she never gets the barrel ‘up’ through the ball.

Ted was right, the hips lead the hands.. ON VIDEO or anatomically. Not when force is applied though. It is a horrible feel cue imo. Great for internet hitting discussions I guess.

the hands should guide your swing w regards to feel. The feel goal of most pros is to ‘get the foot down early’ and ‘use their hands’ or ‘get extended’. This will also extend the hips at the right time.
