Thanks, SBF. That makes sense, and is in line with what I either picked up somewhere or figured out for myself. The big drop step like you see in the Mendoza video makes little sense to me either. It seems like a slow move, and one that would encourage a long first step instead of a short, choppy one.

Having the quick, slight movement encourages the back foot to come through faster than doing nothing, and gets both feet moving quickly -- at least that's the way it feels to me. When I say slight, though, I'm talking one or two inches.
