A few years ago, I was speaking at the NFCA convention in Las Vegas. I was speaking at the ONLY session going on in that timeslot, so all 3000+ people were in the Las Vegas Hilton ballroom listening. I will never forget looking out into the middle of the room and seeing Mike White sitting, watching, listening. Now I have played with and against White for almost 20 years. We were on the National team together. Won Olympic Festival Gold together. Etc. But, ME talking pitching to HIM was like an Apostle talking to Jesus about God. It just didn't feel right. It's hard to put into words how good he was in his days. Not only skilled and hard working with the most competitive nature I've ever seen in someone, but also the smartest person I've ever known in the game of softball.
Tony Aresco, the young man he was coaching, ended up at Oregon as a student assistant. Imagine the BP those players were blessed with! They've got Langenfeld now and I'll be she can still bring it.
