Regarding the rise ball. My dd's PC taught her to throw a rise last fall when she was
consistently throwing in the low 50's. She now uses it in 12U travel and it is her 'go to'
pitch. It helps that it comes in slightly faster than her fastball and breaks very late

I tend to agree that if she can throw those pitches with command and throw them well, she should do pretty well - and even well enough to get noticed. Being able to throw pitches that do not stay flat, I think, are more valuable than being able to throw a pitch that simply breaks in or out. There are some very simple ways to get your drop ball to break in and out and I think I'd work that more than I'd work a screw and a curve. Also, just because you have a great drop, doesn't mean you can't learn to throw a good rise too. Again, there are simple ways to get your rise to break in and out as well. I'd rather have a drop and rise that can move also move left and right rather than have a drop, then a curve and screw. JMHO
