Quick question:

With an odd number of teams registered (7), one team will play an extra game (4 instead of 3) during Saturday Pool Play. That extra game will not count towards Sunday seeding. The question is: how is it decided which game will not count toward Sunday seeding?

Thanks.

It varies based on tournament and organization. I have seen it done different ways. One time it was automatically the 4th game that didn't count. One time the team playing the extra game got to pick which game to drop. However, I prefer the method riseball mentions.

The best way I have seen is to blind draw a game for elimination at the conclusion of pool play.

That makes sense. In this particular case the organization hosting the tournament is playing the extra game, which makes sense and they stated up front which game will not count. Of course the game they picked to not count is against us. We plan on winning so itwon't affect our seeding, but it will theirs.

When there are odd numbers like you said 3 teams can play a RR type format. The other four play after the 1st game W vs W and L vs L to determine finish order. Two games for all of the teams.

We played in a tournament with odd number, They put out a e-mail first team to respond to the e-mail got the extra game. The director also added that the fourth game would not count for that team.

So in that situation the team with the 4th game might just go through the motions which taints the seeding for the entire pool.

The tournaments we play in all games counts. However # of wins is not a seeding tie breaker. Winning percentage is. Also instead of runs scored it is average runs scored.
