2015 Major Rule Changes
GUEST PLAYERS- This request is submitted to allow a team to use 2 Guest Players for a weekend if they are short players and still want to play in a NSA tournament.
The following rules will apply for such a request and you must contact your State Director:
1. Request must be approved by the State Director or his representative 24 to 48 hours prior to start of the tournament.
2. The State Director or his appointed representative must also receive written or electronic approval from her current coach.
3. A player can only guest play 2 times per sanctioned season.
4. If a team uses a guest player and plays in another state, they have to play under the guidelines set in the state they are playing in. Not all states may offer this program.
TWIN PLAYERS- "Optional Twins" eliminate the DH and allow 2 players to be interchangeable at any time on offense or defense.
Any 2 players may be designed as "Twin Players." This must be done at the pregame meeting; write both names on one line of the line-up card, or write them on 2 lines with word "TWIN" before their names.
The "Twin Players" are interchangeable. The "Twin Players" occupy 1 slot in the batting order and are locked for the duration of the game. One can replace the other on offense (batting-running) at any time and as often as desired without being a substitution. The coach should notify umpire when making an offensive change.
Any 9 players in the line-up can play defense (i.e. The Twin Players can play defense at the same time).
There is no requirement that a Twin Player play on offense or defense.
In FUN and QUALIFIER tournaments ONLY: a team may start any game of the tournament with 8 players. You will still take an out in the 9th spot of the batting order.
The LAST RECORDED OUT will now be the runner on 2nd during International Tie Breaker.
In effect for 2015/2016 Sanction Year: No player shall be allowed to wear "optic yellow" or "lime green" pants or any similar color to that of the softball.
Be sure to still go through the rulebook when the 2015 version comes out to see other changes.
