What's the timing mechanism? I've got one daughter who has always been the fastest player on every team she's ever been on (club sports, school sports, track team). She can't break 3 seconds on a laser timer.

ODM TESTS​

10-20-40 Yard Dash​

Uses a laser timing device to ensure the most accurate time, the 10-20-40 yard dash measures explosiveness and acceleration. It also gives the player their home to first time.

Agility Shuttle​

Uses a laser timing device to ensure the most accurate time, the agility shuttle is a 5-10-5 yard test measuring the player’s quickness, ability to change direction and body control.

Swing Analysis​

A player’s swing analysis consists of bat speed, hand speed, time to impact and ball exit speed.

Overhand Throwing Velocity​

Measures the player’s arm strength.

Grip​

Testing the player’s hand and forearm strength, using medical dynamometers.

The first 10 yards are 28% of the total time of the odm. NFL is 32-34%
Their slapper college average is 1.49 this is the same as John Ross 10 yard split and faster than Tyreek Hill.

This adds some data to my anecdotal feeling about this data. It just seems way faster then what I have experienced at every level my DD played. HS, A level travel, and now mid major D1. When looking at the averages remember they also include the heavy set power hitting first baseman

For the first 20 yards, the NFL percentages are higher because they continue to accelerate through the entire 40 yards, so the second 20 yards takes far less time. The softball 20 yard percentage is about 50%, because they have basically hit max speed at 20 yards, and stop accelerating, so the 2nd 20 yards takes about the same amount of time.

The times for my DD are from ODM's laser setup, and were more or less confirmed by a couple of D1 camps and our HS. There has not been a significant variance.

I will say I think most places do it wrong. Lasers are great. But I have yet to see a kid hit a ball while in a sprinters stance. I like the change JD made to time from a batted ball. DD gets out of the box in a hurry, slapping or not. That makes a big difference in game situations.

In the end the measurement is just a tool to confirm what the eyes say. Does the kid turn doubles into triples? Beat out ground balls? Or turn doubles into singles?

Not likely. Women sprinters 10m split is a little over 60% of the 20m time. These are at 55%.
World champion Frazier Price adjusted for reacton converting m to yards first 10 yards 1.64
Marion Jones 1999 world champion would have been 1.58.
Average 11 grade softball player 1.65?
