HOUSTON - Louisville won the inaugural 2014 American Athletic Conference Softball Championship with a 3-2 win over UCF Sunday afternoon at Cougar Stadium.

The Cardinals had five players named to the all-tournament team, including centerfielder Kayla Soles, designated hitter Brittany Duncan, catcher Taner Fowler, pitcher Rachel LeCoq and second basemen Katie Keller. Keller was named Most Outstanding Player after going a perfect 5-for-5 over the weekend with three HRs, including a grand slam.

LeCoq picked up the win for Louisville and improved to 13-8 on the year. The senior pitched the final six innings of Sunday's contest and allowed no runs on two hits. Keller led the offense for the Cardinals, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a triple.

Louisville got on the board first in the second inning and took a 1-0 lead before UCF added two runs of their own in the bottom of the stanza for a 2-1 advantage.

Soles plated Keller in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2, and Jordan McNary scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to put the Cardinals ahead for good.

Kahley Novak, Farrah Sullivan, Kalyn Cenal and Maddy Schroeder each had one hit apiece for the Knights (41-16).

Louisville will learn its NCAA Tournament seeding on Sunday at 10 p.m. eastern. The selection show will air live on ESPNU.

Tim,

What a great achievement. Congratulations to Brittany, the Cardinals of Louisville and to the proud papa. Good luck in the post season.
