I used to coach with a guy that was not popular with opposing teams. He ran a regional exposure tournament. I can’t tell you how many times we would be walking through a complex and he would grab a college coach and say “hey have you seen so and so from team______. She’s a great kid too”. A lot of the parents from those teams would say “My kid would never play for that jerk” if you asked them.Quick funny story - one time I was getting gas between games and wound up chatting between the pumps with the head coach of a prominent TB team we had played the day before. He was very complimentary of my DDs pitching performance during that game and wound up taking down her contact info to pass along to college coaches since his pitchers were all already committed. It was super nice of him; I couldn’t believe my luck.
You never know where your lucky break might come from. Stay open-minded and flexible.
Also my dd was recruited not because of the head of the Big Name Org she was part of. She was recruited because of a conversation the college coach had with a former coach of a team we left after the end of one season. I remained friends with him and he helped my daughter out when he had an opportunity.
Softball is a small, small world. You can’t afford to burn bridges that you don’t need to. Yes, there are some very small people in it but there are also a lot of people with hearts of gold. They can be hard to pick out sometimes.
