Umpires in college are required to inspect all bats prior to every game and the coach is responsible to provide them with a current NCAA bat list at each game. I would seriously doubt it is an illegal bat.

FYI - Bats are not association-approved specifically for fastpitch or slowpitch play. The SP or FP designation by the manufacturer is an advertising/marketing strategy. As a general rule, approved SP bats are perfectly legal in FP. However, NCAA only allows the use of bats that have been submitted for inclusion on their list and not all manufacturers submit all their models with such a request.

DD's HC told us about his kid using FP bats from 16U through college because she couldn't find anything heavy enough in the FP range.
