Injury during play

Seen a pitcher take a line drive to the forehead before, go down screaming. Another infielder CAUGHT the ball that bounced off her head and played it to first for a double play. Time was called immediately after the play. (rightfully so). What would happen if time was called too fast? Not always in the defending teams interest to have a prompt time called.

Mudbug that's what happened in our situation as well, ball riccocheted off RF's head and went right towards CF who was hustling to back up the play anyway. Umpire awarded batter 3B and runner on 1B home. Probably not the outcome without him calling time, but none of our coaches had one word to say to the umpire out of appreciation that he put a kid's safety over a nearly meaningless game.
