High Gate Fees

i don't understand what the gate fees pay for. are these tournaments supposed to make a profit? it seems to me travel teams should make a league and play a schedule, something that would be impossible here because of a lack of teams

Absolutely they make a profit... if well run they are big money makers.

The local rec center has two or three tournaments a year baseball will bring in about $6,000 - $8,000 profit in a weekend, that is gate fees, concession and team fees.

Softball does not do as well, but I don't have figures.
