Go Pound Nails

A tool to identify striking the ball.
Top hand controlling barrel to the ball.
Activates connection of wrist in our motion.
Hand eye coordination.
Muscle strengthening.

This may bring up the topic of how people grip the bat and what is happening with that bat in different gripping positions.
2 of them being-
1. Holding bat across the palm/fingers.
(like a hand shake - how i am gripping the hammer)
2. Holding bat at 90°
(some call this square knuckles - how i am holding the screwdriver)

We can see that how we grip the bat can change the angle of the bat apon approach to striking the ball.

Obviously there are different mechanical approaches to hitting.
Find this particular technical point to be important.
Because we can see the difference in alignment of where the barrel will be at contact.
(or... approach at contact)

TRY POUNDING NAILS!!
Feel the difference grip can make in comfortability, strength, accuracy and ultimatley getting the barrell to the ball in alignment with our hitting mechanics.

Myself hold the bat like i hold a hammer.
Like the barrel as an extension of my pointing finger.

Some people hold square knuckles and strike with same 90° angle at contact and dont flucuate wrist much at all.

Others start square knuckle and the grip shifts in swing to the across the hand position
( like the hammer at striking)

Pounding nails helps identify whats really going on!

ENJOY!

Interesting topic RAD, I would do one handed tee drills with a short training bat to identify the exact same thing.

Those short little training bats will tell on you!

This was a big topic back in the day on this site. Howard Carrier had some thoughts on this site about this.

I’ve told people to “Go bang your ankles”. Is that the same?

The first thing I ask our players when discussing hitting is how they hold the bat in their hands. Some are good, others hold it deep in the palm. I tell them hold the bat where your fingers meet your hands.

Hmmm wonder if old threads lingering?
Looked that name up.
Saw some video with him and Mike Candrea and few others discussing where to put the tee.
Which may be a similar perspective comming from a
'where do we want to connect with the ball'.

in my hitters brain
we need to be able to connect deep, middle, and out front.
Want my grip with mechanics to allow my barrel to be consistant as possible through the entire zone.

How we hold the bat is part of this equasion.
Which includes how we will use our wrists. (or some not)
Simply something to take a momment to look at
Whats really going on....

Howard was once well known and did hitting clinics all across this country. He is noted for being Bustos' hitting instructor. He once said that he didn't teach her how to hit, rather, he taught her how to hit the ball further. Howard and many others from the State of Ohio once frequented this site and shared a lot of information. Many showed their dds journey. Those old threads have some great information on them. Howard also invented the "Whiphit." We use the whiphit and have worn a couple of them out.
