Finger in or out of glove?

I don't know if this applies to softball. For baseball, a former MLB player told me you put the index finger out for infield because it makes it easier to push the ball out for the transfer. For the OF, you put two fingers in the pinky slot and shift the other two fingers over (index finger in) so you can squeeze the glove better.
