What advantage, or why do I see pitchers crouching on the rubber just prior to starting their pitching motion? It seems like a waste of energy and something that would hinder their performance the longer in a game or day or tourney that they have to pitch... ???

Thanks

I saw it for the first time recently too and wondered the same thing. Especially since it was a larger girl I could help to think that she looked tired, but then thought that going into a crouch and getting back up would be a waste of energy as well as cut off circulation to the muscles???

I think it is a reminder for them to use thier legs.

I do not see a benefit but I do not see as much of a down side as you do.

It is a way to get some extra umph into the drive, but at the cost of wear, tear and energy spent. Imagine squatting like that 300-400 times in a weekend! The 2 step is much more efficient.

I saw a 10U pitcher once that squatted before every pitch. Not even a crouch but a full out, all the way down squat. It looked exhausting to me.
