No DD for me (which I think makes coaching a little easier for me) - I do it out of the love of wanting the girls I know to get better at the game and enjoy the game. Not my own ego or W-L record, but at the same time if I'M not doing my best to get at the top of my game, I can't help them do that either.

I started coaching again this year after a year off, and it's the first time I haven't had my own kid on the team. (DD and DS are ACs with me :) ) It's definitely different when you don't have your own kid on the team. And I'm with you on my reasons for coaching. As I told the players and parents at our first practice this week, my goals are to have fun and get better. Hopefully we'll win some games as well, but that's not how I will measure our success.
