Since I registered to the site, I've seen numerous references to DDs on the mound. I realize it's probably an oversight but the DDs don't pitch from a mound. Fastpitch pitchers are" in the circle". As one poster stated, "you are on the wrong field if you are pitching on a mound".

Its just a carry over from baseball and its a hard habit for people to break. (saying this as an Australian who has never had much to do with baseball outside uni games)

My DD's varsity coach is a hall of fame catcher, and she still refers to the pitchers as being "on the mound". It's funny, but pretty common.

They pitch from the circle and on the rubber.

One A.D. could not have cared less whether I called the pitching area a mound or a circle, but felt strongly about calling it the pitching plate, since men should not talk to students about the rubber.

I actually rarely call it a rubber. I mostly call it the plate. I wonder if we could get a consensus to officially change the name of it from rubber to plate. ; )
