Update, I didn't have to do anything at the last lesson. It was uneventful. Student stayed upbeat, pleasant and we made a lot of progress!
What was different? We she arrived, happy and as bubbly as ever, she began singing a song. She said it was stuck in her head. That song stayed stuck her in head for the entire lesson while she sang it and sang it. It was almost like one side of her brain was being distracted and even though the song would pop out every now and then, she stayed focused and positive. Mom reported she had an awesome tournament, won every game. And I was worried about her move to tournament play..: |

Good news!

Many times during a game or practice when I see a player becoming very frustrated at the plate, I will tell them to sing a song in their head.
