Which is better composite or aluminum for someone with less bat speed? My daughter (12U) has been swinging a tps triton (-9)for about a year now which is a composite bat and when she makes solid contact it still doesn 't go very far. Have recently used a few aluminum bats around the same drop weight and they seem to be jumping off the bat better. She is only around 80 lbs but very fast. Started looking at some -13 to quicken her bat speed but wanted some feedback on composite or aluminum. The 2 I was looking at were:
2012 Demarini Bustos
2012 TPS Zephyr

Any feedback on these?

Too many variables really, drop doesn't have as much to do as swing weight, and balance, etc. As far as what's hotter, composite mostly wins hands down. But a hitter would most likely hit much farther with a dead aluminum bat that is optimal size/weight than they would with a hot composite that is too heavy for them.

Find the right size/weight of bat, then get a composite in that size that "feels" best to your hitter.

The right tool in the wrong size is not the right tool for the job. Borrow and test drive as many bats as you can to find what feels and works best for your DD. IMO, worknig on developing a repeatable, fundamentally sound swing (aka HLBB swing) will make much more of a difference than the perceived difference between metal and composite bats. IMO, after 2008 (on set of ABI testing), maximum bat performance is limited by testing therefore the primary difference is that composites generally have a larger sweet spot and are more forgiving on mis-hits than metals.

If you really want to see if there is a difference, then you need to look not at bat speed, but exit speeds off a tee.
