Here's the secret PC - if the HC helps perfect your DD's swing, it won't matter what kind of bat she swings - a good hitter can hit well with a whipit bat, a Walmart special, or the newest $300 "it" bat because it's all about the swing, not the bat. That's your goal. Reach it and THEN buy the "it" bat and enjoy the show.

ding ding ding, we have a winner. This post should be required reading on both of the batting forums and the equipment forum.

we have a winner.ding ding ding,
dong....You got that right...Pitchers not only have to bat @ 10U, but they need to be a big hitter, but they got to have as good as bat sizing as they do mechanics.. Best way to maintain confidence of the Coach putting you into pitch, is to have confidence in your hitting too. We never have worked that much on hitting, due to time put towards pitching. Any problem with any other area effects the pitcher. To make this equipment post, I want DD to have a Miken... we have chose Kelly K. of the USSSA Pride as our Role Goal... because She always makes contact, and always comes up big. It was a surprise to have new coach at first practice to say he thinks she'll be hitting HR's.... He don't know she is the best bunter on his team yet. Loving the new team.

I'm really enjoying DD's practices. The first practice of the week is usually defense and the second is hitting.

As the girls arrive, they warm up by finding a partner and throwing. Then they do dynamic stretching.

If it's a defense day, the coaches roll balls to them as in the Mike Candrea videos; they catch and throw to each other, quick, quick, quick. The action pretty much only stops when the ball bucket needs to be brought back. (They don't have as many coaches and buckets!) One or two pitcher/catcher combos work on pitching, while the others join the Candrea drill work. At some point, the outfielders go off to work in the outfield with their coach. The HC splits his time about 60-40 between the Candrea drills and the battery work.

The other day they worked with the catchers on pop-ups, blocking, etc, also, and they started to do some situational work with the team.

If it's an offense day, they split the girls up into groups and run three stations, typically bunting, hitting off a tee into a screen, and some type of live hitting. They'll have a battery working and when they're done, they run through the stations also.

At the end of practice, they do conditioning: various sprints, relay races, etc. They've set it up very intelligently, when it's getting dark and would start to be getting hard to see the ball, they have the girls doing their running.
--Still plenty of light for that.
