when striding out, i know that you have to stay closed up until 3 o'clock, but after that,

does the hips drive the shoulders or shoulders drive the hips to get open?

I think its a combination of the two. If the drive is strong and explosive, she will achieve pivot foot detachment off the rubber by 3 o'clock. This means the stride leg will be fully extended outward, thus turning the hips open. The shoulders will open up naturally as the arm circles over the top. At approx. 11 o'clock the front foot lands and immediately starts firming up the front leg. Its this FSR that initiates the closing rotation of her hips as they will naturally close to match the angle of her front foot.

DD gets pivot foot detachment before 3 o'clock, but has the tendency to turn her shoulders early. this happens a LOT more with live batters than during practice.
not sure if this is a mental thing, but it's frustrating
