Pumpkinbear - you are EXACTLY right! I have several videos that demonstrate the natural I/R motion followed by jerking her arm back upwards to finish HE. That is the biggest thing making me think to make the leap. PC is a heavy believer in whip -- constantly using that cue. Funny thing is when I watch all of his better and harder throwing pitchers they all finish I/R. I think I will take some videos and have a sit down with him and "learn". If the answers are opposite of all the great insight I read here on DFP then we will probably go out on the island alone. I've contemplated trying to get in with the closer Tincher instructor around (3hrs 15mins). I know it's the right thing in the long run and that DD has the drive to get through a conversion but so hard to do without a support system even remotely close to us. I just don't want to fail my kid and her dreams.... Thanks for the encouragement!

I will give my 2 cents too just agreeing with everything that was already said above and also adding that it will be much better to temporarily feel like she is behind these 2 pitchers then to be 12, 13, 14 and trying to switch later and be WAY behind the best pitchers. She will catch up quickly if she likes pitching and wants to work at it. Every day she keeps pitching with the wrong style will ingrain it more and more and it will take that much longer to unlearn it.

Hi all,
First post. My DD is in her first year of pitching of 10U ball. She started taking lessons about two months ago with a local high school standout pitcher who has signed to pitch major college ball. The coach has taught her the Hello Elbow school of pitching. She can consistently throw strikes (75% of the time; I have focused on her getting it over the plate; not worried about her trying to strike someone out) but her velocity is lower and not as consistent as the other two pitchers on her team that use the IR method of pitching. Long term, the HE method is a dead end, but she is about to begin the season. Do we start working on changing her motion now or wait until the end of the season? It is Rec ball but she is very competitive.

Last year I was in the same situation. My DD was a 1st year 10u and was HE for 2 years. In March, a month before the tournament season DD made the switch against her HC's advice. It was a bit harder eliminating some of the HE tendencies since she was live pitching so much. But by the start of Fall season, with a good 2 months of no live pitching and just practicing she was an entirely new pitcher. I'm glad we didn't wait to make the switch.
